Butter Cream Frosting

1 cup shortening
4 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 pound confectioners sugar

Dissolve salt and vanilla in water and set aside.  Use a mixer to beat shortening for 1 minute.  Add water mixture slowly until mixed.  Add sugar in small batches until all the sugar is combined.   If icing is too stiff, add just enough water until icing is smooth enough to spread.

If you want chocolate icing, follow directions above except add 2 ounces of melted unsweetened chocolate before adding confectioners sugar.
